Χτισμένος στους πρόποδες του Ατταβύρου,της ψηλότερης κορυφής της Ρόδου, ο Έμπωνας βρίσκεται σε υψόμετρο 700 μέτρων και απέχει μόλις 54 χλμ από την πόλη της Ρόδου. Το όνομα «Έμπωνας» προέρχεται από την αρχαία ελληνική λέξη ambonάμβων, που σημαίνει «πλαγιά βουνού».

Παρόλο που το χωριό δεν έχει ενιαία αρχιτεκτονική, η γοητεία του κρύβεται στην αυθεντικότητά του, στη μαγευτική του θέα και στην άμεση επαφή με τη φύση. Ο Έμπωνας είναι ιδανικός προορισμός για τους λάτρεις της φύσης, της γαστρονομίας, του καλού κρασιούκαι για ταξιδιώτες που αναζητούν αυθεντικές εμπειρίες, μακριά από την πεπατημένη.

Embonas is famous for its local cuisine and traditional wineries. Most of the villagers are involved in agriculture and viticulture, cultivating vineyards, olive groves, and seasonal vegetables.
