Monolithos Castle is one of the most iconic and scenic castles in Rhodes.
Located near the traditional village of Monolithos, the castle stands dramatically on top of a steep rocky hill overlooking the sea and surrounding coastline.
Visitors can drive close to the entrance and follow the small stone steps leading to the summit where the ruins of the medieval fortress still remain.
During medieval times, Monolithos Castle was considered one of the four strongest fortresses on the island. Today, parts of the defensive walls and two small chapels dedicated to Saint Panteleimon and Saint George can still be seen inside the castle grounds.
The breathtaking scenery and peaceful atmosphere make Monolithos Castle one of the most unforgettable places in Rhodes.
