Wineries – Wine Tourism (ENOTOURISM)

🥂 Wineries – Wine Tourism in Embonas, Rhodes

In addition to its breathtaking natural beauty and rich gastronomy, Rhodes is also famous for something else — its fine wine. Thanks to the ideal Mediterranean climate, long sunshine hours, gentle sea breeze, and mild temperatures, the island provides excellent conditions for cultivating grapes.

🍇 The Wine Routes of Rhodes

Two official “wine roads” have been created on the island, marked with road signs. One of them leads to the picturesque village of Embonas, located on the slopes of Mount Ataviros. This area is the heart of wine production on Rhodes, home to the island’s largest vineyards and most of its wineries.

🍷 Discover Local Varieties

Visitors can taste exceptional local wines, including:

Athiri

Mandilaria (Amorgiano)

White Muscat (Moschato or Moschato Trani)

Rhodes even holds the honor of producing Greece’s first sparkling wine, known for its premium quality and delicate flavor.

🏡 Embonas – A Wine Village

In Embonas, you’ll find four major wineries and a distillery, all nestled among the scenic vineyards of Mount Ataviros. These vineyards produce PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) white, rosé, and red wines. In 2011, the wine production of Rhodes expanded to include sparkling rosé and white wines, making local tasting experiences even richer.

Moreover, Rhodes has a second PDO label: the sweet white wine Moschatos Rhodou, offering a unique dessert wine experience for those with a sweeter palate.

🧉 Beyond Wine – Taste Local “Souma”

In addition to wine, many local farmers produce Souma, a traditional distilled spirit similar to tsipouro. It’s strong, aromatic, and a must-try for those who love discovering authentic local drinks.
